ADVICE: Wedding Dress Shopping Anxiety

Wedding dress shopping can be a very exciting time for brides-to-be. But for some, the thought of going wedding dress shopping can bring on anxiety about a number of different things. It can be a combination of feeling self concsious, not knowing what you want or just not knowing what to expect.

We have rounded up some of the key concerns we’ve heard from brides-to-be and addressed each of them to hopfully put your mind at ease if any of these resonate with you. But if you do have a conern that we haven’t mentioned, please feel free to get in touch.

I don’t want strangers seeing me try dresses on

Well you’re in luck! Because at Bridal Indulgence, we are tucked away in the countryside on a farm so we don’t have passers by peering through our windows. We also operate one appointment at a time, giving you exclusive use of the boutique. This ensures an intimate and private experience for you and your guests.

I feel self conscious about getting undressed

We always ask beforehand if you’re happy for us to help you in and out of the dresses. And if you’d prefer to be in the changing room on your own, that’s absolutely fine. We don’t have any mirrors in the changing room, so if you are happy for your stylist to hep you in and out of the dresses, you can still protect your modesty. We also have robes that you can put on too.

I don’t know what sort of wedding dress I want

And why should you know? A wedding dress is completely different to what most of us wear in everyday life, so why should you be expected to know what you’re looking for? And that’s why you’ve come to us! We have an incredible collection of different style wedding dresses and we can’t wait to help you try on a variety of shapes and styles and discover what you love. We will offer our expert advicee on which dress shapes are working for you and together we will find you find your perfect dress!

I want to lose weight before I try wedding dresses on

This is totally your decision and if it’s going to make you feel more confident and you have enough time to do this (remember the ideal time to be purchasing your wedding dress is 9-12 months before your wedding) before ordering your wedding dress, then go for it! You can always contune to loose weight once you’ve ordered your wedding dress, but just discuss it with your bridal stylist when it comes to measurements. At Bridal Indulgence, we have a variety of different wedding dress shapes and styles to suit many different body shapes.

NB - we will never tell a bride if she should or shouldn’t loose weight. It’s completely your decision. We just want you to feel happy and confident in your wedding dress.

I’m worried the sample wedding dresses won’t fit me

The chances are that the wedding dress sample you tried on, won’t be in the size we end up ordering for you. This is becuase as bridal boutiques we have to purchase every single wedding dress sample ourselves; so we will usually only order one style in one size, in order to allow us to have more styles. This means that a little bit of imagination can be required! But we have various tricks we will use to try and show you how the dress could look on you in your size when the sample is either too big or too small on you. At Bridal Indulgence, I have tried to ensure we have key dress shapes in a variety of different sizes. Our collection of samples range from a UK8 to UK18.

I think I’d rather come on my own, is that ok?

We have a lot brides who choose to come on their own to their appointment and this is absolutely fine! Trying on wedding dresses can be overwhelming and sometimes you just need a bit of time on your own to process your thoughts. You’re always welcome to book a second appointment to bring someone back with you. Or you might prefer to do the whole process by yourself (well not totally on your own as you will have your stylist!) and that’s completely your decision. You have to do what feels right for you.

I just don’t know what to expect from a wedding dress shopping appointment
